Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Nepal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that there should be no doubt or confusion about friendly relations with India. He also praised the Modi government for the 10 lakh doses of coronavirus given free of cost from India to Nepal. Ollie said that we have good relations with both our neighbors. He also said that we do not have to be worried about China's investment as Nepal is not in a position to get caught in the debt trap.
The decision will be taken as per the constitution
In an interview with CNN News18, PM Oli said that while stating the current political situation in Nepal, he said that I had recommended dissolving the parliament of Nepal and holding fresh elections in view of the situation. The Supreme Court gave a separate verdict and reinstated the House of Representatives. As soon as the Parliament is restored, the situation is back again. Due to the court's decision, the major political party (Nepal Communist Party) split into two. Now the situation is somewhat different and complex. There are problems within the party, but still, we have a democratic system and within the constitution, we will decide how to proceed.
Admitted, failed to convince the Supreme Court
Asked about the Supreme Court's decision to restore Parliament, he said that the Supreme Court has taken a different decision rather than accepting my recommendation to dissolve the House of Representatives. I have to agree that my own people failed to convince the court. Everything has happened under the judicial system and the constitution, so I cannot say much about it. The House of Representatives will now decide according to the political forces within.
We have very good relations with both China and India
In response to a question about China's growing investment in Nepal and India's concerns, Oli said that there should be no doubt or confusion about the friendly relations between India and Nepal. If we talk about China, we have very good relations with our two neighbors. Both neighbors are equally close to us. Talking about investment from China, both India and China have investments in Nepal. We welcome investment from neighboring countries as well as other countries.
India praised for the Kovid vaccine
Oli thanked PM Modi and the Government of India for the free coronavirus vaccine given from India. He said that I do not think that the vaccine sent from India is a matter of diplomacy. India has donated 1 lakh vaccine supplements for us as a friendly neighbor. We have also received the second consignment of the vaccine from India. It is a matter of friendship. This is great support for us. We thank the Indian government and the people of India. The friendly relations that have appeared during the fight against Corona are encouraging and exemplary for others as to how the two neighbors can work together against the epidemic.
Nepal will not be caught in the debt trap
Oli dismissed the apprehensions about China's investment in Nepal and said, "I don't think our country could become unstable due to these." We want investment from outside in the form of donations or loans. We do not have enough resources so we need to work with partners for our development internationally. Investment from China is not in a perilous situation. We want to invite other countries for investment and donations to improve job opportunities and increase production. There is no situation like Nepal getting stuck in debt.
